LEE, Meteorologist in Charge, Weather Forecast Office Baltimore/Washington Subject: Changes in Flood Categories for USGS stream gauge Jones Falls at Sorrento, MD in Baltimore County. ...Changes in Flood Categories on Jones Falls AT Sorrento, MD on the Moores Branch (SRTM2)... Effective at 1800 Coordinated Universal Time on 08/11/2022, the National Weather Service changed the flood category stages for the stream gage at Jones Falls AT Sorrento, MD on the Moores Branch in Baltimore County. Because of this change, starting on Thursday August 11th, 2022, Flood Warnings and Flood Statements will reference the new category levels. This change is part of a recent re-siting of the gauge and re-evaluation of the flood plain with the United States Geological Survey. The new flood category levels will be as follows: 1. New action stage is 14.0 feet above North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD 88). The previous flood stage was 10.0 feet above NAVD 88. 2. New flood stage is 17.0 feet above NAVD 88. The previous flood stage was 13.0 feet above NAVD 88. 3. New moderate flood stage is 19.0 feet above NAVD 88. The previous moderate flood stage was 15.0 feet above NAVD 88. 4. New major flood stage is 22.0 feet above NAVD 88. The previous major flood stage was 18.0 feet above NAVD 88. The National Weather Service welcomes public feedback.
